What did you know or understand about the way artists use symbols before taking this class? Did you use symbolism in your own work before we covered in?
I didn’t understand the use of symbols before I took this class and how to incorporate it into art. I have used symbolism before in my English class. Some of the best symbols are used in literature and I used visual metaphors for thematic elements. When writing a story I used fire to represent a character with a hot temper. I have never used symbolism in artwork though, using in it in writing is very easy for me though.
How has your understanding of the use of symbolism in art changed? Explain how you’ve used symbolism in your artwork, including what symbols you selected and why.
My understanding of symbolism in art has changed a lot. I realized now you can use symbolism to use reflect an emotion to portray an important event. It also is a reaction to a literal representation of a certain subject. I used symbols in my artwork about reading between the lines and people might not understand exactly what my symbol was. It was the blank space of the lines to reflect the emotion of feeling empty and like you’re just in between the lines confused on who you are, you are just stuck in one place.
What are some important or useful things you learned in Art 1.
Some important things I have learned in this class is perspective. I learned about the way you look at a photo or think about a photo or the angle you take a photo can change everything. You really get complete control when you are taking the photo. I also learned about interpretation, especially with lines. Some lines are fragile and they appear easy to break or some lines are harder to break and symbolize strength.
What would you add or change to make it a better learned experience?
I don’t think I would add anything but something I would change would be how I would always get mad and restart my artwork if it wasn’t perfect. But you have to start somewhere and learn how to fix your mistakes by seeing what you did wrong and how you can improve your skills.
